HTGAWM 'It's War' Recap: Yeah, It's About To Go Down

So I can't be the only one that’s been low-key bored with this second half of the season right? Yeah, I didn’t think so. It’s been a while since I’ve written about the show but honestly, there hasn’t been anything to share. At least not until this week’s episode. The Keating 4 have been slandering Annalise ever since she was arrested and now that she’s back home it continues and I’m over it. We still don’t know #WhoKilledWes but at this point, I’m over it and all of the buildup. That was until I realized next week is the season finale and it’s also 2 hours long! That means we’re going to find out everything (we better, or I’ll stop watching) that happened the day that Wes “died”. Let us discuss.

Annalise

Starting with Annalise, sis is looking beat down! She has on her idgaf, I’m tired of all of this and all of y’all wig and honestly, I don’t blame her. She’s out of jail, but it’s one of the first times that she’s seeing the student, I believe, and they don’t even inquire about her health! These kids literally see Annalise at what might be her worst and they continue to push her down. That’s the one thing that pissed me off this week. Annalise has done so much for these students and they don’t appreciate her at all. Besides Asher, he’s the only one who knows that she’s doing everything that she can and is the only one who apologizes for her loss and thanks her for everything that she’s done for him. Yes, she’s made many a mistake along the way but y’all aren’t in jail like you should be! And who kept it that way? Annalise. Who has saved them at every turn no matter what the situation? Annalise. The way the group has been acting toward her you would’ve thought Annalise was a junkyard dog instead of a person and I’m sick of it. Annalise was tired of feeling that way as well considering every time she went in Bonnie’s bathroom she kept looking at her bottle of pills.

After the fallout from her opposing to fight the Mahoney’s, Annalise decided to take matters into her own hands. She penned a letter to the Attorney General asking for a grand jury investigation into ADA Atwood and her case against her as well as the losing Wes’ body. After meeting with the Attorney General in person and after exchanging a few threats, the woman said that she’d look into it. Bonnie made sure to pass this tidbit of info along o the DA’s office expressing that “It’s war”. Turns out that the state starts looking into Nate as well as Atwood and that definitely wasn’t the plan. Nate called Annalise up and told her to stop “helping” him because everyone thinks she’s trash and a joke. Annalise did what she does best, contact the easiest person to manipulate out of the group, Oliver. Of course he would do anything she asked because all she had to do was look at him in order to get something done. So he leaked an article to the press talking about the supposed conspiracy theory behind the lost body.

Annalise also met up with President Hargrove to prove how fake their “friendship” had been. The two had coffee and talked about how Hargrove was now going to be Annalise’s sponsor for AA. Turns out Hargrove had her own sponsor, Atwood. She had been working with her behind Annalise’s back for who knows how long. Just so that Atwood would take her case and help get her kids back. Thank g Annalise isn't dumb, because who knows how that would’ve gone if Atwood actually got some intel from Hargrove? I’m glad Annalise finally dropped this lady because I knew she was shady from the beginning. As I’ve always said, they don’t introduce new characters for no reason. They’re usually always bad *cough* *cough* Meggie.

Laurel

On to Laurel. I would say she’s been annoying me the most this second half, but she’s in the number two spot after Connor. Laurel still seems to still be the angriest of the group, but look at her situation. That doesn’t mean that she gets a pass to be a grade A bitch though. Laurel questioned Annalise about what she was going to do about finding out who killed Wes and she said she was working on it, but obviously she just got out of JAIL! So she hasn’t done much but Laurel sees that as weakness and decides to take matters into her own hands. This girl went behind everyone’s backs to hire a private investigator. At first I was like wait, what? But then I realized it was Laurel and she has the coint do to whatever she wants. Her sneakiness proved successful when he was able to find something. The PI found out that Sylvia Mahoney had done a DNA test on Wes five days before his “death”. Obviously, they found out Wes was Wallace’s son and decided to murk him according to Laurel. While she’s sharing this with the group, Annalise is clearly shook and suggests that they don’t mess around with these dangerous people because they’ll all get hurt.  Annalise even took it upon herself to finally share with them that she was eight months pregnant and the Mahoney’s killed her child. Everyone looked on in surprise except Laurel. She had the nerve to tell Annalise that ‘Wes deserved better than her’……girl what!? That’s when Laurel took it too far that comment was so unnecessary. She’s been acting like she’s the only one that cares ab out #WhoKiledWes but she isn't!

Frank

This man is in jail and he’s done more than any of them have as of late. Frank made a call to Bonnie and Annalise answered and Frank told her that he’d do anything for her, literally anything. I didn’t think he’d kill anyone, but considering his past I didn’t put it past Frank to put a hit out on someone. Turns out, he used his smarts and not his fists to save the day. In court, lawyerless, Frank requests that the judge subpoena ADA Atwood for all of her correspondence from the day Wes’ body was moved. He mentions things like his Sixth Amendment rights as well as Atwood and Nate having dated. The judge agrees to the subpoena and in that moment, Frank was a better lawyer than Bonnie. He goes to court once and is able to get the lawyer to approve a request of his while Bonnie hasn’t been able to do that since Annalise was arrested! LOL. With this subpoena, we find out that Atwood was responsible for moving Wes’ body which was also cremated…. wtf?

Connor & Oliver

At this point, I’m sick of the two of them. Connor for being a dick ever since Wes “died” and Oliver for having no backbone. As soon as Connor finds out that Oliver has a copy of the files from Annalise’s phone, he immediately tells Oliver to show him. This boy still believes that Annalise is the one that killed Wes, so any dirt he could find to prove that would make his whole life. Of course Oliver is hesitant and says he trusts Annalise but he opens the files anyway! Oliver has literally stood his ground 1 time throughout his time on this show, I don’t understand why he’s so weak? But it turns out that Oliver looking at the files was important. He was able to put together an idea of what took Connor so long to get to the hospital the night of. He actually finds out that Annalise called Connor the night of the fire as well and that boy was shook. Lie #1. Connor was looking around the room with a who me face on before he admitted that she did call him, but he never listened to her voicemail until the next day. Lie #2. Connor being the sleuth that he is found out that Connor did in fact get the voicemail that night, he listened to it on Thomas’ phone. Oliver also called Thomas to find out exactly when Connor left his apartment and it happened to be hours before the fire. Enter the flashback to Connor at the house trying to revive a dead/unconscious Wes!!! This boy was in the house, with Wes, before the house blew up. What I can't seem to understand is what happened between then and the fire? Did Connor try and revive him, realize he needed help and leave the house to find it and then poof? Or did Connor try and revive him, realize he was dead, have his millionth break down, and then dipped before the blow? I’m leaning more towards the latter. Connor obviously didn’t kill Wes before the fire? But he was trying to point fingers at Annalise this whole time so no one would find out about him seeing Wes before everything.
Next week is the season finale, and it's two hours long! Based on the clip, we’re supposed to find out #WhoKilledWes. I’m ready to find out so that we can get started on the new mystery to come next season which I’m assuming is who is the ‘In case of Emergency’ contact on Wes’ phone. This episode was better than the past ones in this second half. What did you think??
