Have you ever gotten into an argument with a friend and when you get together after it, things seem a bit off? Almost as if your relationship is tainted forever even though it’ll blow over eventually? Whelp, “Heave Fiery Knot” had a lot of that going on. Jane’s been feeling like an outsider ever since she made her way back to the FBI. After explaining her side of the story, the team still continues to side-eye her whenever she opens her mouth. But of course, they had to come together to save people as usual so that was good. Let’s get into it!

The episode started off with Jane recalling a memory that she had from her time in the with Orion. In 2013, her entire team was killed while on a mission and she became the sole surviving member. Sheperd explained how Orion was a CIA group that handled illegal operations (of course) but once all of the members went down, the organization did as well. Before Jane’s departure from the Orion memorial pow wow, Sheperd gave her a tip on another tattoo to start looking into immediately. Of course, the team is hesitant to start working on tattoo cases again, with Jane, but since it’s important they have to get over their issues. The tattoo in question is one that has coliseum columns that also double as bullets. Patterson starts looking into it and finds that based on the bullet size in the tattoo, they match those that were used to shoot up the wedding of a Mexico City cartel leader. Which obviously, they are lead to the DEA as well as the Juarez cartel. This is possible through something called gun waltzing which is where the DEA sells guns back to the cartels so that they can track and take them down. Coincidentally enough, members of the Juarez cartel had been caught coming into JFK for an unknown reason.

While the team is dealing with that, Reede goes on his own side mission that dates back to season 1. He’s visiting an old friend of his that also attended the football camp where the coach was sexually abusing the children. His reasoning behind the visit is that he’s trying to build a case against him so he needs witnesses to come forward. Freddy seems slightly shaken by the thought of it but takes Reade’s card in case he changes his mind. Unfortunately, the D.A. working with Reade doesn’t think that Freddy would make a good enough witness anyway so that’s over with.

Weller is also dealing with his own issues this episode. Since the death of his father, he hasn’t been able to shake the fact that he’s a murderer and it doesn’t help that he’s still holding onto a box of his dad’s things. So he tries talking it out with Borden who gives him sound advice about confronting his feelings about his dad and his death and moving on after doing so. As he storms out of his session, he runs into Zapata and she’s sharing her feelings about working with Jane again which are obviously feelings of anger and betrayal. Weller shares with her that he can’t stand being in the same room with Jane anymore as well, but they’re going to have to deal with it for now. What he didn’t know was that Jane was standing right behind them *sigh* poor thing.

Patterson uncovers that the DEA agent behind the dealings of the weapons is a woman named Valentine and that she was currently at the bank trying to cash out and run. As the team approaches the bank to arrest her, they see that some cartel members had beat them there and were trying to take her out. In true Blindspot fashion, a shootout ensues and Jane ends up saving Reede’s life in the middle of it. Also, make a note of her holding Valentine so that the team could bring her in for questioning. If you’ve been keeping score that’s Jane: 2 FBI: 0. At this moment, their questioning of who’s side Jane was on should’ve ended here, but nope, there’s more.

During the questioning, it’s revealed that Valentine had no idea about anything that had been happening and her mentor Robert Kingston had set her up. This happened after she brought a discrepancy to his attention, apparently, he really didn’t want to know about it.

**Side note** While all of this was happening, Borden approached Patterson and nervously asked her to dinner whilst giving her the gift of an old computer game called The Oregon Trail. *tears* I hope they work out because they’re both so cute together. And it’s been a long time coming since the flirting towards the end of season 1.

After being betrayed, Valentine agrees to help the team track down Kingston and stop him from delivering the U-Haul full of weapons. At this point, the team is finally crumbling. Patterson starts arguing with Nas about why she won’t give her access to her information, Zapata basically tells Jane that she’s a backstabbing liar and that she doesn’t want to go into the field with her, and Reade shares that it’s Janes fault Mayfair is dead. Weller then turns into the team dad and yells at everyone to get over it and complete the mission. At this point, if I was Jane I would’ve left them to figure it on their own. Once the arguing calmed down, Reade told Zapata about what he was working on and how the D.A. dropped their case so she advises him to tell Freddy “the truth” about what happened. I thought that was funny considering she doesn’t tell the truth ever.

Jane confides in Nas about her uneasiness with playing a double agent and Nas basically tells her that she doesn’t have a choice seeing as she’s NSA and could turn her in. After those fighting words, she assures Jane that she doesn’t have to like her but she can trust her (lies.com). But of course, we can’t because once Jane leaves, Nas continues listening to the recordings of her sessions with Borden. In that moment, I knew I wasn’t wrong for staying true to my belief that new characters on shows always have bad intentions! Meanwhile, in some secret house, Roman and Sheperd I arguing about Roman wanting to shadow Jane to make sure she’s okay. Sheperd proceeded to tell Roman that she was fine and could take care of herself and also that she could do things that he couldn’t that was obviously rude AF. Oh, and Cade has been sighted by another Sandstorm member so the FBI and Jane better pray they don’t find him.

The team locks on Kingston’s location in East Manhattan and fear that he along with the cartel are going to blow the whole area up, but alas, that isn’t their target. After a quick search of the surrounding area, Patterson shares that the location is right beneath a major flight path and that the target has to be a plane coming in from Mexico full of politicians and officials. She’s right as always, and the team finds them getting the stinger missiles in place to fire. 30 seconds later, the fighting scene is over and surprise, surprise, Jane is the one who diverted the missile into the water and saved the day.

The day wasn’t over since more surprises were in store. Nas informs the team that a contact that Valentine had was responsible for two of the tattoos on Jane and that since they solved the case, he went to jail which is usually what happens. Reade also tried talking to Freddy about what happened with the D.A. but she had beat him to it. We learn then that Reade apparently knows more about what happened at their football camp than he says. Those memories must have been traumatic enough for him to suppress and completely forget about. And Zapata gives Jane a weak apology. The real shocker this episode is that Aly returns and shares with Weller that she’s 3 months pregnant with his baby right after he threw away his dad’s belongings (he should’ve jumped in the trash to have avoided this situation also) Honestly, I felt like in that moment she was trying to trap him, especially when she said she didn’t need his help raising the child. Weller helping her raise the child would mean that she wouldn’t have to worry about the relationship between him and Jane building *insert evil laugh* I thought I’d never have to see her again after last season because she low-key sucked as a character, but I guess the writers like her enough.

There are still a lot of things that we don’t know like why did Sandstorm want them to work on that specific tattoo? What is there whole “save the world” plan? And who are the FBI and NSA moles? Hopefully, the writing stays true to season 1 and doesn’t go through that the sequel always sucks syndrome. Guess we’ll find out eventually!
