We’re getting closer to finding out #whosunderthesheet every week and I’m dying. Last week, we ended with Oliver being the first to be on the still alive list when he showed up to the crime scene. The next person to emerge this week wasn’t a shock to me, but I still thought one of the others would appear first. This episode finally gave us a look into Laurel’s life and it isn’t as good as we thought. Let’s get into it!
This week, we picked up where we left off and ANNALISE WAS FINALLY BEING ARRESTED FOR SOMETHING! The police had questioned her at the crime scene and she goaded them into arresting her if they truly thought she was a suspect and they did. Our girl was getting finger printed, having mug shots taken and everything! I never thought I’d see this day come. Now, of course, I’m on the side that knows she’ll never be in trouble ever but it was still crazy to see her being arrested. We turn to Oliver next and see him in what appears to be the lounge the students use when they’re prepping for cases completing his task of erasing the phone.
The case of the week
We were forced to deal with a trash person of a different caliber this week and his name was Toby Solomon. He had already gone through like five other lawyers, so we knew something was up with him from the start. Apparently, Toby was on trial for the death of an escort that he hired who died while with him. Annalise promises to be the one to save him like she does everyone, but this is before we know the full story. Michaela was the first chair this week but I’m sure she regretted it as soon as she saw Toby and learned more about his case. He was ogling her from the beginning talking about how pretty she was, unfortunately, this happened more than once. It was revealed in the court room that he had the audacity to take a selfie with the dead escort and sharing it before calling the police. Bonnie suggested them trying to get a deal for Toby even though he clearly didn’t deserve it so Annalise went to talk to the prosecutor about it. This girl had the nerve to tell Annalise that she and no one else in the entire office would make a deal with her based on her reputation. She then proceeded to share all of the traits she stole from Annalise, including her confidence. Annalise obviously knocked her down two notches when she stated “she never had to fake it” when it came to the high levels of confidence she had in herself. BLOOP!
There was some activity in Toby’s account that involved him withdrawing $20,000 when he stated he was “broke”. When he was approached by Bonnie and Annalise, he shared with them that he was being blackmailed by his previous lawyer because he killed a girl. If you’ve been keeping up, you remember that we already know that. Nope, this is a completely different girl who was a runaway named Janie. She didn’t want to sleep with him when he picked her up off of the street. He gave her drugs and proceeded to come onto her when she shot him down and talked about his insecurities. Toby was tired of being called an ugly loser so he decided to beat her to death with a baseball bat and then hide her body in a freezer. Can you say psychopath? Annalise was able to work out a deal after having Toby lie on the stand about Janie’s murder by pinning it on someone else and dragging that “confident” prosecutor for filth. After all of that, Toby had the nerve to question why jail time was even on the table after Annalise “promised” he’d have none. Annalise gave him one look and slapped the soul out of his body! He obviously took the deal after that.
What happens in Atlantic City…The slap heard around the world! #HTGAWM pic.twitter.com/9BqqBpY3SB— Viola Davis (@violadavis) October 7, 2016
While Annalise and Bonnie were dealing with the case, Michaela decided that she would steal Toby’s $20,000 and take a trip with Asher, Oliver, and Connor to Atlantic City. This was obviously due to the anger she felt that her ex-fiancĂ©/Connor’s ex-hookup Aidan was getting married to someone else. She started betting the money on the roulette table and was doing great, but lost it all three seconds later. Coliver was suffering here though and it was sad. Oliver was appreciative that he and Connor were able to get through their sitch and still be friends, but Connor made it known that they surely weren’t. He later saw Oliver flirting with a bartender who later tries flirting with Connor and proceeds to tell him that Oliver and Asians as a whole aren’t his type…Connor flipped out as he should. But the thing I don’t understand was how he ended up apologizing to Oliver yet again for no reason. Oliver swore that Connor was trying to sabotage him and the guy hooking up. Hmm, if he only knew.
Laurel and her Dad have major issues
The main focus this week was on Laurel and her father (Esai Morales) and the many issues that they have. Last week Annalise told Laurel that she’d have to go see her dad after the phone call the three of them (AK, Bonnie, and Laurel) made to Frank. So we caught up with Laurel in Miami at her father’s office. Before they even get upstairs, he makes it known that he’s been listening in on her phone calls and doesn’t think this Frank guy is worth her time. He also thought it was necessary to bring a mediator into their meeting because they had problems that needed to be worked through. Talk about disrespect! I was hot when he did that, but nothing tops the information Laurel shared.
We were finally able to get an insight into Laurel’s life and man, it was crazy. Apparently, her father left her and her mentally ill mother for another woman and when Laurel was 16 she was kidnapped and he didn’t want to pay her ransom! I was ready to throw my remote at the screen then, like how do you not pay the ransom for your own daughter?! To top everything off, he had the deets on Frank and his whereabouts but would only give it to Laurel on one condition, she sign her name on some “investments” that her father has in the works. At first, it seemed like she wasn’t going to do it but Frank drunk called her and that changed her mind. Long story short, Laurel’s dad is trash AF. When Laurel returned home, she told Annalise that she would’ve had to sign her soul over to her father for information on Frank and she didn’t, lies.com.
Six Weeks Later..
We see Oliver making his way back through to the crime scene to place Annalise’s phone and we learn that Bonnie is the next person to have escaped a fiery death *yay*. I mean, not to be taken the wrong way, Bonnie is alright as a character, but I wouldn’t have been too broken up if she was under the sheet. Now I’m low-key freaking out because that means someone I genuinely enjoy is potentially dead. Who’s under the sheet is beside the point when we get wind of another body being found in the house….and the person has a pulse!
I enjoyed this episode and can’t wait to see who will be alive next week!
